What Sprints and Marathons Say about Your Life

There is a reason no 100m Olympic champion has ever won an Olympic marathon. There is also a reason those who win marathons don’t win the 100m race. They are both races, but they are technically different.

The marathon races mirror life more than the sprints. I ran both as a student so I know they aren’t the same race. I always won the sprints, I stood no chance in the marathons. I just didn’t have the lungs and the patience for marathons.

Your life isn’t a sprint. When you fall, stand up and keep going. When you are tired, slow down, take a deep breath, exhale and keep going. When you are ahead, stay humble. Time and chance happens to us all.

More so these days most people live through other people’s lives online. What you see online is at best a perspective of their lives. By design, they share the beautiful and wholesome parts. You judge your whole life by the vignettes others choose to share about theirs.

There is a long way to go still. Don’t take losses to heart and don’t dwell too long on your wins. Ultimately, as long as you are here, you just got to keep going!
